There is no safety here
but your own.
One — What you should know
Burning wood gives off carbon monoxide. Colourless, odourless. Before you notice, it brings headache, dizziness, a clouding of the mind. Enough of it kills.
- If the alarm sounds, get outside without hesitating.
- Do not linger inside over embers once the flame is gone.
- Never block the air intake.
- On windy days, do not light the fire.
From a hundred degrees to eight. Blood pressure swings, and the heart and vessels bear a heavy load. It can trigger fainting, heart attack, stroke.
- If you have a heart or vascular condition, or high blood pressure, consult a doctor first.
- Never enter after drinking.
- Pour water over yourself first, to let the body adjust.
- At the slightest sign of trouble, stop at once.
The cold bath is a natural stream. Its depth and current are never constant. After rain, it rises. After the heat and the sudden cold, the mind can drift. Enter then, and you drown.
- Never enter the water alone. Always two or more.
- Keep away from the deep.
- When the water is high, do not enter.
- If you cannot swim, take particular care.
The stove, the heated stones, the flue — touch them and they burn. Wet wood and wet rock are slippery.
- Do not go too near the stove.
- Never take your eyes off a child.
- Watch your footing.
It is clear to the bottom. And yet — clear, but not to drink. Do not take it into your mouth. We provide no drinking water.
- Bring your own drinking water.
Two — The promise and responsibility
YUUKA is a private place, for invited guests alone. Those received as fire-keepers (himori), after a review, reserve their times from the member page.
Tell no one the place or the price. Keep faith with the fire, the water, and one another. That is the only promise.
- Sauna or water after drinking.
- Sauna or water entirely alone.
- Pushing yourself on a day you feel unwell.
- Leaving the fire unattended.
- Use by children alone.
There is not always someone here to watch, or to help. Tending the fire, entering the water, knowing when to stop — all of it rests on your own judgment.
If it feels like too much, turn back. That, too, is a way to spend the time.
Mobile signal may not reach. We will give invited guests, separately, the emergency contacts and the nearest medical facility.
In case of fire, injury, or sudden illness, secure your own safety first, then call 119 without hesitating.
YUUKA has prepared nothing but the fire, the water, and the stream. The final judgment on safety rests with you, the visitor.
Save in cases of our intent or gross negligence, and save where the law does not permit exemption, YUUKA bears no responsibility for loss arising from your own judgment or conduct.
By visiting this place, you are taken to have read, understood, and agreed to all that is set out here. This notice is governed by the law of Japan.
